Memorandum of Understanding Was Signed Between Istanbul Gelisim University and Samarkand State University!


Istanbul Gelisim University continues its determination to achieve its goal of becoming a strong university in the international arena. In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Samarkand State University in Uzbekistan on December 31, 2024. Thus, IECO has strengthened its partnerships in Central Asia.

In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Samarkand State University in Uzbekistan on December 31, 2024. Thus, IECO has strengthened its partnerships in Central Asia.

Samarkand State University is a famous and old higher education institution not only in Uzbekistan but also in many countries of the world. Although the official establishment of SamDU dates back to 1927, its formation and gaining the status of higher education is closely connected with Mirzo Ulughbek Madrasah. In other words, Samarkand State University was first established in 1927 under the name of Higher Pedagogical Institute. In 1930 it became the State Pedagogical Academy of Uzbekistan, and in 1933 it was transformed into the State University of Uzbekistan. Due to the Second World War, between 1941 and 1944, the State University of Uzbekistan was incorporated into the University of Central Asia. In 1944, the State University of Uzbekistan was restored. Since 1960 it has been known as Samarkand State University. Currently, Samarkand State University has 7 faculties and 4 institutes and 59 departments offering 72 educational programs. About 17,000 undergraduate students and more than 700 graduate students in 50 postgraduate specializations study at the university. These students are taught by about 900 professors and teachers, including 3 academics, 115 doctors of science, 440 candidates of science and PhD holders. More than 60 doctoral programs (PhD and DSc) are available in various specialties and there are 12 scientific councils that conduct the defense procedures for these programs. The university has a library with more than 3 million books.

Within the scope of the partnership, academic, scientific and cultural cooperation; student and staff exchange issues were discussed. The agreement was signed on December 31, 2024 between Rector Prof.Dr. R.I KHALMURADOV on behalf of Samarkand State University and Rector of Istanbul Gelisim University Prof.Dr. Bahri ŞAHİN.

Memorandum of Understangings are as important as Erasmus+ agreements in increasing the recognition and prestige of our university, and as IECO, we continue to increase our activity day by day not only in the European continent but also in many international continents.

A First at Istanbul Gelisim University: Erasmus+ BIP Program Successfully Completed

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) is organizing a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) for the first time within the scope of Erasmus+, taking an important step in line with its internationalization goals. A total of 32 students from Poland, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania participated in the program, which will be held from April 28 to May 2, 2025.

On March 10, 2025, a briefing meeting was held for our partner universities regarding the Research Project Planning and Proposal Writing Blended Intensive Program (BIP). Erasmus+ Student Mobility Information Seminar was held!

Istanbul Gelisim University International Exchange and Cooperation Office for the 2025-2026 academic year, students who want to apply for Erasmus+ Study and Internship Mobility announcements from the 2025 project will be able to make their applications via TURNA PORTAL (turnaportal.ua.gov.tr) system between 19 February-10 March 2025. Istanbul Gelisim University has started to receive Erasmus+ Student Mobility applications for the 2025 Contract Period. Applications will be received online via TURNA Portal.
