Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) hosted another important international engagement as part of its goal to strengthen its global cooperation network. On 21 November 2025, representatives from Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, one of Latvia’s long-established higher education institutions, as well as representatives from Università degli Studi di Udine, Italy, visited IGU. The visit stood out as a strategic step toward enhancing academic, cultural, and research-oriented collaborations between the institutions.

Martīņš Șabovičs, Director of the International Cooperation Office, Deputy Director Ligita Vaita, and Burcu Önder Gürpınar from Edubucks, the university’s representative institution in Türkiye, attended the meeting. This visit followed the initial contact established during the EAIE Conference held in Sweden on 9–12 September 2025 between IGU’s International Exchange and Cooperation Coordinator, Alisa Usubova, and the Latvian delegation. IECO Coordinator Alisa Usubova and Assistant Specialist Yaren Ergenç also contributed to the discussions evaluating possible areas of academic cooperation.

During the meeting, the initiation of Erasmus+ student and staff mobility between the two universities was discussed in detail. Positive decisions were made regarding the implementation of reciprocal mobility programs, particularly in the fields of Economics, Business, Finance, and Software Programming. Another key agenda item was the Blended Intensive Programs (BIP) supported by the European Commission. In this context, both parties focused on developing joint projects that would allow students to combine short-term physical mobility with online learning. At the end of the visit, the parties reached a mutual agreement to establish Erasmus+ bilateral agreements in order to formalize the academic cooperation.

On the same day, Università degli Studi di Udine, Italy, representatives from the International Relations Office of Sara Di Stefano and Sonia Bosero also visited our university. IECO Coordinator Alisa Usubova and IECO Specialist Ece Nur Yüksel attended the meeting. During the discussions, potential collaborations between the two institutions were evaluated, and it was proposed to establish an Erasmus+ bilateral agreement particularly in the field of Economics. Furthermore, detailed discussions were held on double-degree opportunities, joint research activities, and BIP projects supported by the European Commission.

The visits of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies and Università degli Studi di Udine to IGU reinforce the university’s internationalization vision and mark the beginning of future academic and cultural collaborations.
